After an early morning rain, some of the backyard trees and shrubs glistened with raindrops. With camera in hand, I decided to take a closer look. I didn’t have much luck capturing images of the raindrops, but in the process I happened to notice the amazing colors in the wet bark of our baldcypress tree (Taxodium distichum).
I enjoy the bark of this tree throughout the year. However, I’ve never seen it look like this! The closer I looked, the more I was amazed by the bright colors and textures.
This reminds me of a beautiful abstract work of art. I’m glad the raindrops enticed me to the backyard and this discovery. It was a wonderful solstice surprise.
Bark is always fascinating and this is especially beautiful. Thanks for the visual treat, Betty, and for reminding us to take the time to appreciate all the beauty around us. Merry Christmas!
Amazing color and texture, Betty. My silver maple is quite wet this morning, but has not gained any different coloration!
What a beautiful Christmas gift you unwrapped with your camera! Merry Christmas, Cousin!
What a beautiful and “busy tree”. It’s giving you a gift just because!
Beautiful colors and striations. Nature has wonderful patterns if we take the time to look. Merry Christmas, Betty!
Because I do now and have always LOVED trees and because I celebrate Winter Solstice, I especially appreciated seeing your beautiful photos of these amazing trees. Thanks so much for sharing them.
Thanks, Lorraine. Comments are always appreciated.
My husband planted several baldcypress seedlings years ago in our front lot. I never dreamed the bark could look so beautiful as your picture shows. I will need to share your picture with him and our daughter since he planted some of these seedlings in her yard, too.
Adele, the bark on our tree seems especially rich in color when it is wet.
